Manic Monday
#1- You might remember that last week Chad and I chaperoned a school field trip to the Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia, SC. We had SUCH a great time!!! I debated on whether or not to bombard you guys with zoo pics today or just share my general let's-try-to-get-happy-on-Monday stuff. In the end I decided that the animals are happy. Like this alligator that really wanted to eat my kid.
#2- Playing is happy.

#3- Napping is HAPPY.

#4- Eating (We got to feed these guys!!! They eat kale. Baby Giraffe here is licking his chops) is happy!

#5- This guy made my heart happy. His name is Chaka. He is 28 years old and despite this ugly concrete room he's in (where he really wanted to hang out so he could see all the children) he has a pretty great natural habitat. Chaka is a Western Lowland Gorilla who likes to do puzzles and help out with daily tasks. He was sitting on this burlap sack and kept peering over his shoulder at me. I'd perched on a bench in front of a bank of windows while there was a lull in the crowd with the hopes of getting a really great photo because Chaka was AMAZING. But while I fiddled with my camera Chaka turned, walked over to the glass, and suddenly we were nose to nose. He looked me straight in the eye and I wish I could accurately explain to you the catch in my throat or how I felt this big guy was staring into my soul. Best part of the day.

#6- Baby Koalas are SOOOOO happy.

#7- Some wild animals never adapt to their domestic habitats. Like Norma Jean, for instance.
It's Monday. Have a great Week!!

That Norma Jean pic is cracking me up!
I think Chaka had a crush on you.
I think you might be right.
SO cute!! I'm happy you showed these pictures. I never get the Zoo anymore. Boo on me!
It had been a few years for me-- I want to go back soon! It really is so cool.
LOL looks like you had a blast at the Zoo....Norma you terrify me!!!! lol
Love the pictures. Evan so cute. That was such a fun trip when we went. Glad you got to go with Chad. Norma Jean looks waaay craaazy!Wouldn't want her sneaking up on me!
Norma is crazy. Never hurtful, though. Just plain crazy.
We had such a great time at the zoo! We need to do it again for sure!
Hee hee... Baby Koalas..sweet
Soooo sweet.
Gorillas, chimpanzees...they are very close to human, so its not a surprise to me that his look was meaningful. Smart cookies, those gorillas. Poor Norma Jean...the target of so much ridicule. I think she knows and that's why she is a naughty kitty sometimes. Payback;-)
Norma was a feral kitty. She was basically starved when I found her and she was only maybe 4 weeks old. I think she is probably from a long line of wild kitties and I attribute her weird behavior to that. I have seriously never EVER had such a weird cat (and I grew up with plenty!). Yesterday she climbed up the backside of the laundry room curtains (floor-to-ceiling) and was just swinging there for awhile. She also likes to put her head in my shoes.
That gorilla was sooo amazing. Piercing, intelligent, soulful eyes... you could tell he just gets it.
We used to go to Riverbanks all the time when I lived in Columbia. Glad they had such good weather for their field trip!
It was AMAZING field trip weather. I had no idea you lived in Columbia! It was a good little day trip-- I'd like to do it again without an educational worksheet and 2 extra children 🙂
