Cream Cheese Banana Bread

Cream Cheese Banana Bread Recipe

I shared this Cream Cheese Banana Bread Recipe originally in 2012. It still gets traction, especially when the weather is perfect for baking or when you are just having a DAY.

Other awesome banana bread recipes include Elvis Banana Bread and Healthy Pumpkin Banana Bread. Cranberry Pecan Banana Bread is also a winner!

Original rambling post text follows --

I am completely technologically challenged. I've always been that way. When I was in school I preferred the library to the computer lab.

I always researched papers using books, spreading allllll of my papers across the reference section of the library, taking tedious notes and drawing swirls and curly-cues in the margins of my lined note paper.

I wrote rough drafts sitting in a greasy spoon called the Knife & Fork with a slice of diner lemon meringue pie and bottomless coffee poured by an infinitely cranky woman named Nan that had roughly 43 pencils sticking out of the tightly coiffed bun atop her head.

We had a typewriter. My mom really liked to type (that is code for, "My mom typed all my final drafts"). There were no laptops in my life.

I actually didn't break down and purchase a laptop until earlier this year, and then only because the fan in my stegasaurus-era desktop sounded like it was going to spin itself into orbit. I refused a cell phone until I was 24 and I had to have it for work.

We had the same home phone number my whole entire life and my theory was that no one needed to talk to me sooooooo badly that it couldn't wait until I got the message.

Banana Bread with Cream Cheese

Imagine that.

I still write most things down. I am a list-maker from the very bottom of my scatter-brained heart. I write lists of things we need on the chalkboard in the kitchen. Events and bills are carefully printed on the wall calendar. I keep a notebook full of recipes, scribbles,

Andrew's math homework, and more lists. It does not ever occur to me to open up the notepad on my computer or use the calculator on my phone. And like that weirdo waitress from my high school days, if my hair is up, there is probably a pen stuck in it.

I tell you all this- the ins and outs of my quirky and sort of retro ways- as a bit of a disclaimer and also a plea...

With all of this shuffling around I'm not quite sure about the fate of my email subscribers. Comments from those of you that have landed here would be sooooooo appreciated. I will reward you with banana bread.

And I'll get this all sorted out eventually.

Cream Cheese Banana Bread Recipe

This Cream Cheese Banana Bread is moist and rich and WONDERFULLLLL. It has more butter and sugar than my usual banana bread recipe and boasts a whole 8 ounce block of cream cheese. It bakes up more like a cake and was pretty hard to resist right out of the oven paired with an afternoon cup of coffee.

I'll tell you, though... If you can muster a bit of self-control, save one loaf. Wrap it up TIGHTLY and hang onto it for another day. Leftover banana bread is amazing in things like Blueberry Bread Pudding with Whiskey Sauce!

  1. Cooking this in a 10×3 bundt pan, instead of walnuts used chocolate chips. How does that affect cooking time?

    1. I have no idea. I have never tested this recipe that way. I'd set the timer for 1/2 the time and test with a toothpick, and then adjust timing from there!

    1. Hi Jackie! So sorry I'm just getting to this! I always use ripe or overly ripe bananas in cakes and breads. If you use a more ripe banana the color might be slightly darker, but the flavor and moisture content will be over the top!

  2. This is a definite for my "Make It Now" list. I LOL at your comments about tech, lists, CELL PHONE (!), etc. OMG, you were describing me! I refuse to give up my lists for any computer, but I have had to give in to the laptop and cell phone. Great recipes! Keep 'em coming.

    1. Hi Linda! Thanks! Let me know how you like the bread! This is one of my most popular recipes to date 🙂 Annnd as I type this reply I have a stack of notebooks next to me with my to-do lists!!! Haha

  3. Oh my to the goodness this looks yummy! I think I might make this as soon as physics is over. For the next 2 weeks I"m still consumed by that. Can't wait to try it!

And good job on finally breaking down and getting a laptop! 🙂 As a computer science major, I have been working with and on computers for a very long time! 🙂 BTW, I found your post on Facebook! 🙂

  6. I had to go to your website to read this one. It did not come to my email. It isn't on my facebook page either. What is going on here? Your biggest fan and supporter, (well, at least I think I am) is unable to get your stuff? I, too, am technically challenged, although I do not think that you are, and I need to read your stuff! Walk me through this so I am on every list! But no twitter, NOT DOING THAT!

    1. hahahhaa. Okay so at the right hand side of the page it says "Subscribe to Sugar Dish by email" Just click on that and a window will pop up from feedburner. Enter your email address and the weird letters below that confirm you are a human being, and then click subscribe. You'll get an email from feedburner that you need to open and then click the link confirming. That's it! I didn't post this to my personal facebook page, only to my Sugar Dish fan page (which I think you are following?) so I'll be sure to pay attention and put it in both places when I post later today. THANKS, MOMMY!

  7. Ok so I'm bad with change lol But I'm not bad with banana bread...cause I love that sh*t!!! haha Laptops are SO much better than desk tops cause you can't take a desktop just anywhere!!! What projects are you working on over there btw??? lol

    1. I do love my laptop, but basically I just resisted technology altogether. The store I ran for so long didn't help either because it had been around for forty something years was owned by a couple in their 70's. We are out in the country and our customer base had been here their whole lives so they expected old fashioned instead of technology. We had an old school cash register and an adding machine lol. I wrote everything on steno pads. Banana bread is the very first thing I learned how to bake all by myself (I was 9), so I'm always excited when I can put a delicious twist on an old favorite!
What am I working on at Trailer Trashtastic? I've been systematically eliminating the horrendous wallpaper in my house. I put up a great big chalkboard wall. I made Chad build me some cool organizational stuff. Put up Halloween decorations outside. Planted fall flowers. Working on a few new pieces of furniture... chairs and stuff. Yeah!

  8. i'm ignoring the banana and cream cheese aspects of this, because it looks yummy, so I'm imagining just the buttery-sugary-cake-y flavours and accompanying coffee! I'm a list maker too, scrawls here there and everywhere...and there's a lot to be said for it - thought I'd printed out my notes for a presentation I had to give for parents last week (and I am NOT a public speaker by any stretch of the imagination) only to discover five minutes in that I hadn't and had to do the rest note-less! Never would have happened if I'd hand written them! PS can't help you on the email-front, I just check in to see what you're up to rather than getting notified anywhere 🙂

    1. Heyyyy Rachael! So glad you check in on me. The butter + sugar + cakey texture of this loaf are sooooooo excellent, all cream cheese and bananas aside. I am NOT a public speaker. I don't even like speaking in front of a handful of people, unless it's my family. And with no notes? FORGET IT. I will continue to scrawl evuuurrryyything into notebooks.

  9. Yay, new domain for you!! No worries, I see you on my Facebook at least. I have to check if you're on my Pinterest account. And ps, this bread looks so dense and moist! I never thought about adding cream cheese to Banana Bread--a match made in heaven, as far as I'm concerned.

    1. Facebook has pretty much been a lifesaver this week. So glad to hear from you! I liked the cream cheese in the banana bread even better than I like chocolate in the banana bread... if that gives you any clues about the total goodness! I also read somewhere about subbing applesauce for the butter, so if you did that with 1/3 fat cream cheese and half whole wheat flour, this might actually be kind of a wholesome snack!

  10. So you can't really be that technologically challenged since you write a fabulous blog and take amazing pictures. Besides that, who cares if you can operate technology when you can cook such amazing things! This seriously looks delicious...I've never really cooked with cream cheese but I may have to start.

    1. Thanks, Ameena! If you only knew how much crap I had to read to get this blog to bear some semblance of functionality! Am curious as to how you got to the new locale? Email subscription? URL link from your comments? I don't know how many of my readers actually host-jumped with me. So techno-challenged? YES. But I can bake a mean loaf of banana bread. Cream cheese is amazing!

  11. This recipe looks amazing!! I am the exact same way... I like my to do lists and rough drafts on paper. Can't wait to see you tomorrow!!

    1. Ohhh me, too! Super excited. Did you get this post by email? Or Facebook? Trying to track down all my people... but not in a creepy way.
